Ivar Langen

Dr. Langen obtained his M.Sc. in Structural Engineering from The Norwegian Institute of Technology (NTH), Trondheim, Norway 1968 and the dr. ing. degree from the same institution in 1981. From 1968 to 1984 he worked alternating at NTH and the research foundation SINTEF with teaching and research and development within finite element methods and programs, structural dynamics and offshore structures. In 1984 he joined Statoil in Stavanger as lead engineer and later research manager and department manager working with reliability of offshore structures, structural integrity monitoring and analysis of full scale measurements of platform behaviour. Besides his Statoil duties he was adjunct professor of Engineering Mechanics at Rogaland University Centre (later Stavanger University College) from 1986 -1994. The academic year 1991 -1992 he was Visiting Research Engineer and Consulting Professor, Reliability of Marine Structures Program, Department of Civil Engineering, Stanford University, California, USA. In 1994 he was appointed Professor of Mechanical Engineering (Applied Mechanics) at Stavanger University College, (later University of Stavanger), Stavanger, Norway with research activities in reliability based design, inspection and maintenance planning, dynamics of offshore structures and mechanical systems and simulation of coiled tubing fatigue. From 2000 he was vice dean, School of Science and Technology, Stavanger University College and chairman of the Doctoral Programme Committee. He was the founder and director of Centre for Maintenance and Asset Management at Stavanger University College from 1997-2003. In 2003 he was elected Rector (president) of University of Stavanger for the term 2003 –2007. He was member of the Research Committee , The Norwegian Association of Higher Education Institution (UHR) 2003-2005 and elected member of the Board of The Norwegian Association of Higher Education Institution (UHR) 2005-2007 From 2009 he has been associated with NORCOWE –Norwegian Centre for Offshore Wind Energy as Work package manager for Offshore Deployment and Operations In 2010 he retired from his professor chair and is now professor emeritus.
