INVITASJON TIL MØTE
Tirsdag
20. april
2004,
kl. 1900
LERCHENDAL GÅRD,
TRONDHEIM
Donald R. Sadoway
John F. Elliott Professor of Materials Chemistry
Department of Materials Science and Engineering, Massachusetts Institute of
Technology, Cambridge, Massachusetts, U.S.A.
The field of materials science
and engineering (MSE), just like all engineering disciplines, continues to grow
while the time to earn a bachelor’s degree remains fixed. Only by implementing
major changes both in content and in format of undergraduate degree programs in
MSE can we expect to meet the expanding educational needs of our students. This
talk will describe major efforts in two arenas: (1) the science core taken by
all engineering students prior to choosing a major and (2) the undergraduate
degree program in materials science. By integrating subject matter from beyond
the instant technical specialization and by reinforcing theory through
presentation of applications students are provided eagerly sought after context
and are thus engaged to improve their mastery of the material. The speaker will
refer to his direct experience at MIT where he teaches an engineering
alternative to the classical general chemistry class offered by a Chemistry
Department. In addition, he will report on the initial reaction of students to
the new undergraduate course of study in materials science which was launched
this academic year.
Møtet er åpent for alle
